I had the huge honour of creating not one but two 5-foot Gromit statues to celebrate the success of 2013's Gromit Unleashed. The 'Legacy' statue or 'Facts the way we did it, lad' to give them his proper name and his twin brother were covered in illustrated statistics that told the story of the Unleashed project, including the incredible amount of money it raised for charity, The Grand Appeal and the Bristol Childrens Hospital!
One Gromit is on permanent display inside the Gromit Unleashed store at The Mall in Cribbs Causeway, Bristol and the other lives within the atrium of the Aardman Animations HQ in the heart of BS3.
The twin Gromit's are painted using spray paint, the graphics are designed in illustrator, laser cut out of vinyl, hand weeded and then hand applied to the body, with a dual coat of clear coat lacquer to add a lovely layer of shine.
The statues were custom built too, to a special design of a spike-less collar and a giant dog tag!
A huge thank you to Aardman & The Grand Appeal for commissioning me to make these, it's been the biggest honour to be involved with such an incredible project, Gromit Unleashed has been life changing!
A special shout out to Jamie Cross for his vinyl skills, doing the application of the vinyl graphics on both Legacy statues and the original 'Stats'!
