For the last few months at Aardman, Chris, George & myself had been hard at work making the official Shaun In The City app! It lets you find and collect all 120 Shaun the Sheep sculptures located in London and Bristol. It lights up whenever you're near to a sculpture (or lets you enter a 4-digit code if GPS isn't on/working). There's also over 30 different trophies to earn by ticking off Shauns in a variety of ways! The best part? Every penny of the £1.49 for the app goes to charity, raising money for sick children in hospitals.
We'd done lots and lots of testing throughout the process, but the only way to truly make sure the GPS was correct was to head to London, when the trail began, to collect all 50 Shauns ourselves, using the app - and that's exactly what we did! We got our comfy shoes on, popped out phones on charge and hit the train to get to the big smoke!
It was a brilliant day - it was really nice to bump into different people doing the trail (as we went on the Saturday, the very first day the trail began) who were just as excited as we were! I even got to see my Shaun out on the trail, in it's very awesome location of Peters Hill, which is right in front of St Pauls Cathedral!
We managed to get round all 50 sculptures, doing all 4 curated trails and the other few which weren't on a specified trail! It was absolutely exhausting, it tooks us 10 hours, including a break for lunch and then coffee, but absolutely worth it! Not only was it great fun to see and admire all the Shauns on the trail, it meant we could double-check the GPS co-ordinates and then manually update them, whilst on the trail, so the app would be bang up to date for everyone else using it!
In total, we walked over 32 miles, taking over 45,000 steps!
So, what are you waiting for - go grab the app from the Android / Apple app store, and go Shaun spotting! The trail is on in London until the end of May, and then 70 brand new designs visit Bristol from the 4th July! Stay tuned to shauninthecity.org.uk for more info!
