I'm a huge fan of designer Aaron Draplin, I have been since first watching one of his talks online a few years back. I love his no-nonsense, no-bullshit attitude. Just all out raw and real advice from a working designer. His creative output is top of the league, you can tell his respect for the origins of great graphic design in the work he himself makes.
Today I spotted a link on The Fox is Black, which showcases a short film of Aaron talking about his craft and process behind making an identity. His attention to detail and meticulous thoughts about context and application make this a must-watch for any creative. I urge you to drop what you're doing and peep your eyes on this fantastic video below:
I had the honour of meeting Aaron and speaking alongside him at The Meat Conference up in Aberdeen in the summer of 2014! It was a real pleasure to watch him speak in person to a crowd and also chat to him after the event and hang out, discovering what makes him tick.
That was a fantastic event in itself, speaking alongside my man Al of AnyForty, James White aka Signalnoise, Naomi Atkinson, Radim Malinic & Lauren Currie.
I know they all felt the same, in that being around Aaron was very inspiring. He's really got something that; a tonne of talent and a huge heartfelt respect and passion for what makes great design great!
Anyways, stop reading this and go and spend 16 minutes by watching the video above and get inspired!
